How did you get started? I began in Caracas, Venezuela, after playing twinkle twinkle and loving it. I was 7.

What do you do when you’re not playing with ROCO? I play for almost everything else in town…namely Mercury Baroque, HGO, TUTS, Houston Bach Society, Ars Lyrica.

What are you listening to on your iPod? Rubén Blades.

Bio: Violinist Andrés González began his violin studies at the age of seven in Caracas, Venezuela, under the tutelage of Professor Emil Friedman. After settling in Miami, Florida, Andrés attended the New World School of the Arts, and later, the University of Miami. While in Miami he was very engaged in the music scene, not only of the city but throughout the state, playing with many of south Florida’s orchestras and ensembles, including Miami City Ballet, the South West Florida Symphony, Miami Bach Society and the Florida Grand Opera. He appeared as soloist with the New World School Symphony, the University of Miami Symphony, the Sunrise Symphonic Pops, the Ocala Symphony. He won concerto competitions at Interlochen Arts Camp and Sewannee Summer Music Festival.

In 2000 he moved to Houston to pursue a Master’s degree from Rice University, where he studied with Sergiu Luca. Now, a resident of the city, he regularly performs with Mercury Baroque, Houston Grand Opera, The Bach Society and the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra.
